Over the past month we have been very busy uploading and keywording our images for the website and that has meant we haven’t had a lot of time to shoot. The office side of things is fun though for a change – working with my little assistants Taya (6), Rewa (nearly 4) and Keo (almost 2) giving me their input on the pictures they like – usually anything with a bike in it.
We did manage to shoot a graduation for a friend (we don’t normally do these) and that was very cool – literally as it rained and drizzeld throughout the shoot, but the images look very cool with the light mist falling in the background at the University of Otago – probably the most beautiful university in New Zealand.
We also sat down with my friend pro downhill mountain biker Justin Leov to select the images for Ride 2012: The Art of Riding mountain bike calendar. We chose 11 awesome images for it, but he felt we were missing the crtitical jumping shot. He gave me a guy to call: Conor Macfarlane. We met Conor in Queenstown a week later and discovered a real genuine nice guy who can pretty much do anything he wants on a bike. His talent combined with some great light to nail a series of shots for the next Spoke Magazine and filled the void in the calendar. Got to love it when everything comes together!

How We Shot It
This image was made using an underwater housing (homemade) with a Canon Eos 5, 24mm lens and Fuji Velvia film. It was shot at 1/500th at f5.6 at Boulder Beach in Dunedin, NZ. We shot 10 frames underwater hoping to capture the inside of the wave. It was a bit hit and miss without goggles or an LCD screen to review the images, but it is a favourite. That’s the magic of film.
